Recent Cover Reveals in YA Sci-fi

In the last couple of weeks, the covers for two of my most anticipated 2018 YA sci-fi releases were revealed. They are so incredible, I really wanted to share them here. Preorder links aren’t up yet, so I’ve included links to Goodreads instead. If you missed them or you haven’t heard of one or both titles, here they are:

33382313Hullmetal Girls by Emily Skrutskie

Delacorte | July 2018

Add to Goodreads

Delacorte has acquired Hullmetal Girls by Emily Skrutskie. It was pitched as a YA Battlestar Galactica in which two girls risk everything they have for new lives as mechanically enhanced soldiers; after a rebellion against the governing body forces dark secrets to the surface, the fate of the entire fleet is left in their hands. Publication is slated for summer 2018.

I know that’s not a very detailed summary, but I have a lot of faith in Skrutskie. I loved her debut The Abyss Surrounds Us – which you should definitely check out – and have been avidly awaiting her next series. The HULLMETAL GIRLS cover was originally revealed here. The first chapter was also shared here.

It got in us.

After receiving an urgent SOS from a work detail on a distant planet, a skeleton crew is dispatched to perform a standard search-and-rescue mission.

Most are dead.

But when the crew arrives, they find an abandoned site, littered with rotten food, discarded weapons…and dead bodies.

Don’t set foot here again.

As they try to piece together who—or what—could have decimated an entire operation, they discover that some things are best left buried—and some monsters are only too ready to awaken.

Sci-fi is probably my favourite genre, so I’ve been really desperate to read some new and thrilling YA releases in that genre. Some great sci-fi novels are coming out next year and I’m super excited. It also helps that the author’s Pinterest board for this book is super intriguing. I’ve been following the Pinterest board and the author’s teaser tweets for awhile, so I know CONTAGION was originally called Achlys. Bowman also shared more details about it here. The cover for CONTAGION was originally revealed here.

Cover Reveal: 27 HOURS by Tristina Wright

Today is the cover reveal of 27 HOURS by Tristina Wright! I’m thrilled to help share it because this book sounds so good! I also hope it sounds slightly familiar because I wrote about it on Friday in a post on highly anticipated 2017 debuts. I think if you’re a fan of sci-fi, this book is not one to be missed. I also believe one of the inspirations for this book is Gargoyles (1994-97), the animated television show. I loved that show as a kid so it’s a plus in my book.

Without further ado, here’s the cover, synopsis, and preorder links (hint hint 😉 ). Don’t forget to add 27 HOURS to your Goodreads to-be-read shelf.

Synopsis:

Rumor Mora fears two things: hellhounds too strong for him to kill, and failure. Jude Welton has two dreams: for humans to stop killing monsters, and for his strange abilities to vanish.

But in no reality should a boy raised to love monsters fall for a boy raised to kill them.

Nyx Llorca keeps two secrets: the moon speaks to her, and she’s in love with Dahlia, her best friend. Braeden Tennant wants two things: to get out from his mother’s shadow, and to unlearn Epsilon’s darkest secret.

They’ll both have to commit treason to find the truth.

During one twenty-seven-hour night, if they can’t stop the war between the colonies and the monsters from becoming a war of extinction, the things they wish for will never come true, and the things they fear will be all that’s left.

Now the cover!

27hours

This cover is absolutely incredible! If the synopsis didn’t have you adding it to your TBR, then the gorgeous cover has too! The cover definitely exceeded my expectations and I think everyone involved in the making of it deserves a round of applause. I love the colours used and the placement of the title, author name and tagline. I also love that we get a glimpse into the world and the technology of that world, but at the same time it’s still a mystery. There’s enough to grab your attention but it’s not over the top.

About the Author:

Tristina Wright is a blue-haired bisexual with anxiety and opinions. She’s also possibly a mermaid, but no one can get confirmation. She fell in love with science fiction and fantasy at a young age and frequently got caught writing in class instead of paying attention. She enjoys worlds with monsters and kissing and monsters kissing. She married a nerd who can build computers and make the sun shine with his smile. Most days, she can be found drinking coffee from her favorite chipped mug and making up more stories for her wombfruit, who keep life exciting and unpredictable.

Still trying to figure out the mermaid thing.

Cover Reveal: THE BROKEN ONES by Danielle L. Jensen

It’s finally here!! I am so happy to be able to help share the cover of THE BROKEN ONES by Danielle L. Jensen! This cover is so, so gorgeous and could possibly be my favourite, of all of Jensen’s book covers. TBO is a prequel novel to Danielle L. Jensen’s The Malediction Trilogy, one of my all-time favourite series and I can’t wait to read it. I was really satisfied with WARRIOR WITCH, the final book in the series, but I love being able to return to this beautiful world. For those not familiar with the series, I’d recommend reading STOLEN SONGBIRD (book #1), then HIDDEN HUNTRESS and WARRIOR WITCH. Even though TBO is a prequel, I always feel the official first book in a series has a better hook while prequels provide a bit of insight into characters you already know and love.

Without further ado, here’s the full synopsis, the cover and other important details. You can also find my review of HIDDEN HUNTRESS here and my immediate reaction to finishing WARRIOR WITCH here. Be sure to check out the giveaway at the bottom! Angry Robot is giving away four sets of paperbacks (to be sent when the finished copies of The Broken Ones are available), plus signed swag (bookmarks & bookplates). This giveaway is international.

Synopsis:

A prequel to the USA Today bestseller and Goodreads Choice finalist Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy).

Below Forsaken Mountain, a revolution stirs with the aim to overthrow the tyrant king of Trollus, and Marc is the right hand of its leader. It’s a secret more than one troll would kill to possess, which is why he must keep it from everyone, even the girl he loves.

Since a tragic accident revealed her affliction and ruined her sister’s chance at the throne, Pénélope is an anathema to her father, the Duke d’Angoulême. Deeming her life worthless, he gives her one chance to survive: find proof that the boy she loves is a leader in the sympathizer revolution.

Marc and Pénélope must navigate the complex politics of Trollus, where powers on all sides are intent on using them as pawns, forcing them to risk everything for a chance at a life together.

Except being together might be the greatest risk of all.

Now the cover!!

Isn’t it amazing?! Usually there’s only one character/model on Jensen’s covers, so I love that both Marc and Penelope are on it. The artist for THE BROKEN ONES cover (and the covers for the rest of the series) is Steve Stone. WebsiteArtist Partners Profile.

About the Author:

DaniellView More: http://heatherpalmer.pass.us/danielle-jensene L. Jensen was born and raised in Calgary, Canada. At the insistence of the left side of her brain, she graduated from the University of Calgary with a bachelor’s degree in finance. But the right side of her brain has ever been mutinous, and it sent her back to school to complete an entirely impractical English literature degree at Mount Royal University. Much to her satisfaction, the right side shows no sign of relinquishing its domination.

Danielle L. Jensen is the USA Today bestselling author of The Malediction Trilogy: Stolen SongbirdHidden Huntress, and Warrior Witch.
